Coleman Concedes Senate Race

Filed under: Al Franken,Norm Coleman — loudounlady @ 1:28 am

After an 8 month saga, one that lost its appeal with each passing month, Norm Coleman finally conceded the Minnesota Senate race.  The concession, which gives Al Franken and the Democrats their 60th seat in the Senate, will have major political implications.

Acquiring this 60th seat will allow the Democrats to overcome any threatened or exercised Republican filibuster.  The concession also marks a somewhat historic occasion as well, this will be the first time in THREE DECADES, let me say that again, THREE DECADES, have reached such a majority.

For anyone who lost interest in this race months ago here is a quick run-down of how we got here, and I mean quick.

On the night of election Coleman was the supposed winner, by a mere 300 some votes, in hearing this Mr. Coleman called upon Franken to concede but the Democrat wouldn’t have any of it.  This unwillingness prompted a recount which gave the victory to Coleman, by a mere 225 votes.  The race eventually made its way to the Supreme Court which ruled in favor of Franken.

Now, please leave me some comments letting me know your thoughts or what implications will come from this decision.
