Candidates Tackle Off-Shore Drilling

Filed under: Bob McDonnell,Timothy Kaine — loudounlady @ 5:10 pm

Bob McDonnell, Republican gubernatorial candidate, has asked the three Democratic candidates for governor to join him in supporting off-shore drilling.  The current governor, Timothy Kaine, has repeatedly delayed the sale of a lease for exploration off the coast of Virginia.

McDonnell expresses the need to allow exploration because it would create thousands of jobs and help the state get out of this deficit.  A study conducted by Old Dominion University found that offshore natural gas production off the coast of Virgina would create 2,500 jobs in a ten year period, while yielding over $600 million in direct and indirect payroll.

As for me, I am a supporter of anything that will limit our dependence on foreign oil.  Let me know your thoughts.
